Heart Trust needed for Brain Trust
If the heavens declare God's glory as Psalm 19:1 claims, then it shouldn't take rocket science to realize that He is out there. But today Stephen Hawkings and his brain trust will throw more rocket science and massive amounts of money into a hopeless quest to find something -- anything -- out there that can scientifically legitimize their denial of our Creator. Their egos simply must prove that we miraculously "pulled ourselves up by our own bootstraps" in this universe.
Announcing a $100 million endeavor to find intelligent life beyond our earth, Hawking says, "Somewhere in the cosmos, perhaps, intelligent life may be watching these lights of ours, aware of what they mean. . . . It's time to commit to finding the answer - to search for life beyond Earth. We are alive. We are intelligent. We must know." Umm, Mr. Hawkings, are you sure of that?
Yuri Milner, his financial partner in this endeavor, claims, “The scope of our search will be unprecedented — a million nearby stars, the galactic center the entire plane of the Milky Way and 100 nearby galaxies." Hey, here's an idea, Mr. Milner: Maybe you could start by searching your own heart. That would be the starting place of an honest search.
They named their project "Breakthrough Listen." Yes, listen!! "To him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens; behold, he sends out his voice, his mighty voice. . . . As it is said, 'Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.'" (Psalm 68:33, Hebrews 3:15).
Science and faith are not hostile to one another. Scientific truth and the truth of God are in total harmony. It would be wonderful if these men, having poured so many resources into their project, came back shouting, "There IS a God!"
