CHRISTMAS AND THE SPIRIT OF HEROD

 

 

 

 

 

It's that lovely season again -- Christmas -- when people the world over pause to acknowledge the miracle God gave us so many generations ago in the little town of Bethlehem.

A pure and perfect infant cooed safely in a manger, protected and adored by God's holy angels. This babe, the Christ-child, was destined to grow up to become the God-man, Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God and Savior of the world. For the joy set before Him -- seeing us in heaven with Him eternally -- He would gladly sacrifice every drop of his precious blood. What a wondrous Savior, what a worthy Lord, what a blessed birth that Christmas night.

But the devil -- "a murderer from the beginning" -- hated God's plan, hated Christ, and hated humanity. He found Herod, a greedy egomaniac who made room in his heart for no king but himself. Sated with power and corruption, he became the devil's willing accomplice. Filling Herod's heart with envy, hatred, and murder, the devil incited him to kill the infant competitor-King. Herod could do this, because the Roman Emperor had given him the authority to do so. Therefore, in his effort to get at Christ, he filled Bethlehem with the worst kind of violence, massacring every babe under the age of two. Such gross evil! With his power, Herod should have preserved law and order, not exploited it. Rather than killing the innocent, he should have protected them. But, right or wrong, he had the power to do as he pleased -- his "fundamental right to choose." So he did what suited him, without regard for God or any others in his way.

Today, we see Planned Parenthood in the same spirit of Herod. They've got vast power and authority. They could do so much good! Instead, they rob the innocent of life, filling our nation and the world with the blood of the unborn. And not just the unborn. As long as they can cloak their sin as justice for women -- a woman's right to choose -- the "Herod spirit" won't blink at wholesale infanticide.
